Neutral Buoyancy, 2023
As the National Aquarium’s Artist-in-Residence, I brought this exploration into the physical realm. Performing for over 650 guests, I moved from the crest of Blacktip Reef through the winding paths of the National Aquarium, transforming the space into a living canvas. My performance practice is both ritual and ceremony, an embodied meditation where I become both artist and artwork. With each movement, I sculpted space, activating the environment as moving, breathing, living art.
Water is a teacher. It reminds us to release, to adapt, to find equilibrium between resistance and surrender. Neutral Buoyancy was not just about water as a subject—it was about water as a collaborator. In creating this work, I did not simply depict submersion; I sought to feel it, to become it, to invite others into its depths.
